Step-by-Step

How to create a click-to-tweet link

Same trick bloggers use for 'tweet this' quotes.

  1. 1

    Write the post

Type the text exactly as you want it posted. Keep it punchy; readers can still edit before sending.

  2. 2

    Add link, hashtags and via

Attach your URL and a few hashtags. The 'via' option credits your account at the end of the post.

  3. 3

    Copy the intent link

Use it behind a 'Tweet this' button, in an email, or as a QR code at events — it opens X's compose window with everything filled.

Intent links are an official X feature and don't require an API key.

Private by design

Everything runs in your browser. What you type is never uploaded or stored.

Instant & free

No signup, no watermark and no expiring links — the QR encodes your link directly.

Print-ready

Download the QR as PNG/SVG or print a styled card for tables, stickers and packaging.

Click-to-tweet link FAQ

What is a Twitter / X intent link?

It is an official URL — x.com/intent/post (formerly twitter.com/intent/tweet) — that opens the compose box with text, url, hashtags and via parameters pre-filled. The user still decides whether to post.

How long can the pre-filled post be?

X's standard limit is 280 characters. Links count as 23 characters regardless of length. The tool shows an estimate as you type.

Are the hashtags added to the text?

Yes. X appends each hashtag after the text, separated by spaces. Don't put the # symbol — we strip it and X adds it.

Does the visitor need to be logged in?

They'll be asked to log in to X first, then the post box appears with your text filled in.
