YouTube timestamp link FAQ

How does a YouTube timestamp link work?

YouTube reads the t parameter as the start offset in seconds. 4:22 is 4 × 60 + 22 = 262, so the link ends in ?t=262 (or &t=262s on the full watch URL).

What's the difference between t= and start=?

t= is for normal watch and share links. start= is the equivalent for embedded players (youtube.com/embed/ID?start=262).

Can I write the time as 1h2m3s?

Yes. This tool accepts 1:02:03, 3723 and 1h2m3s and outputs the same result.

Will the timestamp survive a share from the mobile app?

Links opened from the YouTube app, Chrome and Safari all respect the start time. Some third-party apps strip query parameters when they re-share a link.
